23-10-2025One of the most important books you can read it you have a young athlete that may be on an elite level. I love everything about this book, Moses is very relatable to the kids this book is designed for. I'm also on Troy's email list and he consistently sends great content, very useful information. Your kid can have all the talent in the world, but it's not enough these days, they must develop mental toughness to succeed in the long run.
Does it talk about dealing with competition stress? Is this good for teen athletes? Can parents use this book too? What age range is this book for? What do customers say? Does it include exercises? Does your child perform better in practice than they do when the game or when the "Lights Come On"? Do they seem like they are losing their love for the game? Do you want to help them? Publisher

I bought this book for my fifteen-year-old niece, and this is what she has to say: I like that the author breaks down the fourth wall and summarizes the main points after every chapter. He's also funny and gives you a realistic experience of what is to be a young athlete. He gives you the process and the mental state of how your brain works. He provides resources and additional reading at the end of each chapter. It's a great book. I recommend it for every young athlete.

Basketball Team Summer Book Club Top Pick!
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
If you are an athlete you know you’d rather be playing your sport than reading. But I had my son read this book to see if we should read it for his basketball team’s book club. And it was an instant winner, even beating out Kobe’s Mamba Mentality. Below is a summary of strengths and a recommendation from my 5th grader. From the introduction, this book captures the young reader’s attention and it just continues to flow. The use of bold lettering, bullet points, and spacing makes this an easier read to stick with than a lot of other books. You can pause in between chapters and feel confident picking the book back up. I love the chapter summaries, quotes, and stories about successful athletes and their families. The authors clearly paint the picture that mental toughness is as, if not more important, than athletic ability. If this book is ever revised, consider ending the chapter with the exercise on it’s own page (after the summary and book recommendation) or end the book with all exercises combined. That way it’s easier to find and repeat each exercise daily in between readings. -

Good concepts, needs editing
Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
The book is just okay. The concepts are great — classic even. It is not well written or well edited, and even youngsters can point that out. It does not read well, and does not have clear key main points. The chapters are muddled, the “step-by-step exercises” are vague and hidden in too much unedited text. It’s just not a great book. With such critical feedback, why the 4-star review?Because it’s a good idea. I don’t like the author’s continuous use of slang — honestly, it hurts my brain — but if others speak and read this way comfortably, this book could offer a relatable take on sports mental toughness with some editing. However, if you want your child to learn to consume quality literature, find another book. (By the way, children can read and understand at a much higher level than they can speak. Use that to their advantage.)As a book co-written by a youngster and father duo, dad should have sought out better editors to help with the project. You can have a relatable young voice and still create a well-written book. So I give it an E for Effort. I hope they can write something more compelling next time because I think they are actually on to something.

LOVE this book!
Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
My two tennis players are obsessed with this book. It is geared toward high level athletes of all sports and resonates with all sports. It approaches the mental game of sports in a way that is easy for teens to understand and gives many exercises for them to practice daily. My kids keep a copy with their tennis bag and read it on the way to matches as a refresher. If they have an off day at practice they come home and re-read a chapter they think they need to focus on. The book also focuses on the importance of family and the family's support. It is an EXCELLENT read that I would recommend for any young athlete trying to find more success in their athletic journey.

A Game-Changer for Aspiring Athletes – The Perfect Gift!
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
I bought this book on mental toughness for my little brother, who's a dedicated soccer player and swimmer currently training hard to make it to the bigger leagues, and it was the perfect birthday gift! This book isn't just about physical training; it really delves into the crucial mental aspect of sports. It's filled with insights and techniques that are directly applicable to soccer, helping him to sharpen his focus, improve decision-making under pressure, and build resilience. He's already talking about how he's applying some of the strategies during his training sessions. For any young athlete serious about their sport, especially one aiming for higher levels, this book is an invaluable tool. It's definitely helping him build the mental toughness needed to succeed.

One Stop Shop For Mental Toughness
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 26, 2024Format: KindleVerified Purchase
This is a great little book. I purchased it for my partner who, despite not falling under the category of "young athlete" (well, she's 30, she'd argue THAT toss with me), she's not as into reading sports psychology tomes as I am, and I was looking for something a little simpler that I could distill for her.It absolutely did not disappoint. As someone who has spent over 20 years reading all manner of sports psychology books, there wasn't anything new here that I had not read elsewhere, but I'm not the target audience. Young athletes won't have spent the time I have reading as widely as I have. So this should be new to them.Although there's nothing I've not read here before, this is the first time I've found all of these tips in one single place. It's a one stop shop.I really love this book for it's simplicity but also breadth. Yeah, you could want to read deeper into some aspects, but you don't *need* to to get the full benefit of these exercises (and I know from experience that they do work. But you've got to do them every day, for years, to get the full benefit of them. They're not a magic wand).I've already purchased the follow up and the parent's guide as well.I've seen in some reviews complaints about grammatical errors, but I found about two in total. So I assume these have been editted out in future editions. It is certainly not a jarring read and my praise is not in spite of the presentation of the text. So don't let those reviews put you off.
